Author Guidelines

Siglo XXI. Literatura y cultura españolas is an annual publication. The journal does not apply any cost to authors for publishing articles or reviews. The deadline for sending articles and reviews to each volume opens in January 1st. The current volume will be closed when a sufficient number of articles and reviews have been published. December 1st. will be the closing date for each current volume. As a period of ninety days is required for the reviewing process, September 30 is the deadline for articles to appear in the current volume (if the deadline for submit articles is closed before, it would be indicated in the section "Announcements"). Reviews may be sent until November 15th. Contributions receiving a positive evaluation will be published shortly after reception. The same author may not publish two articles in consecutive volumes, or more than one review in the same volumen.

Articles and review articles must be submitted in Word. Graphic contents and accompanying illustrations should be inserted in the corresponding place in the text. The author is responsible for the authorship and originality of the work submitted, confirming publishing rights of any images included.

 Use of inclusive language

Siglo XXI. Literatura y cultura españolas journal, we have an unwaivable commitment to equity and respect for all people, respecting and celebrating diversity. For this reason, the articles will avoid any claim of superiority for reasons of sex, class, culture, ethnic origin or any other difference between people. Authors should ensure that they use bias-free language, avoid stereotypes, and commit to inclusive language. In particular, the concealment of women behind the masculine generic and the use of initials in bibliographic citations, in which the full names of the authors cited, must be included. As a more general orientation,  Siglo XXI assumes the guide for a non-sexist use of the language of the CSIC, a guide available at the following link:

FORMAT AND GUIDELINES FOR CONTRIBUTORS

ARTÍCLES:

The articles must be adapted to the format that can be downloaded by clicking on the following link: FORMATO DE ARTÍCULOS.

The articles, which must be unpublished originals, may be written in Spanish or English. As the articles will be sent to referees, no information regarding the author should be present in the articles. In order to give the publication wider readership, the following information should also be sent: an abstract (in Spanish and English) of about ten lines in length; the title of the article (in Spanish and English) and five key words in both Spanish and English.

It is advisable to adjust the articles to the following scheme:
— Introduction: section intended to indicate the object of study, describe the problem to be solved, the method of analysis and the sources used.
— Development: central section of the article that should be used to analyze the object of study. Authors may use as many headings or paragraphs as they deem convenient.
— Conclusions: in this section, it is necessary to specify in a systematic and precise way the results of the research, highlighting the original contributions offered by the article and the new lines of research that it opens.

QUOTATIONS

Short quotations (maximum three lines) will be included in the body of the text in quotation marks (" "). Guillemets (« ») should be used for embedded quotations. Longer quotations (more than three lines) will be indented and single-spaced, using an 11-point font, without quotation marks.

FOOTNOTES

Reference marks for footnotes will be placed after the puntuation marks. Example:

A continuación aparece en el texto una cita de Plinio: "Y a este propósito dice Plinio que no hay libro, por malo que sea, que no tenga alguna cosa buena";¹ pero no es la fuente directa el propio Plinio,² sino un espléndido prosista: Gabriel Alonso de Herrera. En 1513, en Alcalá de Henares, se imprime por primera vez su Obra de agricultura, creación pionera y maravilla de exactitud léxica.³

A 10-point font will be used for footnotes.

BIBLIOGRAPHICAL CITATIONS

Bibliographical citations, both in the body of the text and in footnotes, should follow the English model: (Author's surname, year: page). For example: (Bloom, 1994: 25), according to the norms APA.

When several studies by the same author have been published in the same year, they will be identified by a small-case letter in alphabetical order following the year: (Bloom, 1994a; Bloom, 1994b...).

BIBLIOGRAPHY

The reference bibliography will appear at the end of the article following the centered title Bibliography. The entries will be listed in alphabetical order and will use a hanging indent. They should adapt to the following examples:

— Books:

Surname/s, Name (year), Title of the book in italics, Place of publication, Publisher.

      Example:

Bajtin, Mijail (1989), Teoría y estética de la novela, Madrid, Taurus.

In the case of more than one author, the book will be cited thus:

Surname/s, Name and Name Surname/s (year), Title of the book in italics, Place of publication, Publisher.

      Example:

Tovar Llorente, Antonio y Miguel de la Pinta Llorente (1941), Procesos inquisitoriales contra Francisco Sánchez de las Brozas, Madrid, Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas.

— Editions of books:

Surname/s, Name (year), Title of the book in italics, ed. Name and Surname/s of the editor, Place of publication, Publisher.

      The author's given name may be substituted for the initial/s followed by a period as long as there is consistency in this use.

When submitting an article, it is recommended to include in the "References" box a copy of the list of bibliographical works cited at the end of the article. To do this, you can copy the list of references of the original document of the article and paste it into a text document (Word, etc.), treating the text of the following recommended way:

— Each reference must be separated from the previous with a blank line.

— DO NOT use labels <br>, <br/> <br /> <p>.

— Do not apply any style because when you paste the text in the field references does not keep it. DO NOT use HTML tags (such as bold <b> italic <i> or <em> indexes <sub>, etc.).

— No classification titles should be included whit the references eg consulted primary source, secondary source, viewed files, etc. Leave only the list of references.

— The names of the authors should not be omitted if repeated in different appointments. They must be entered in each of the appointments.

Finally, the text must be pasted in the "References" box.

BOOK REVIEWS:

Review articles may be written in Spanish or in English and must have no more than 15,000 characters (including spacing). Review articles must adopt the format: FORMATO DE RESEÑAS.

 

REVIEW

Articles which do not comply with all the requisites established in section "Format and Guidelines for Contributors" will be returned to the authors for their eventual correction.

The recived works will be analyzed with an plagiarism prevention tool. The Editor Team of the journal may reject the works if it considers that they present plagiarism or a high number of coincidences with other texts.

In order to maintain anonymity, authors are requested to refrain from referring to themselves in the first person, and that do not include data in the article that allow your identification (if the article is evaluated positively, personal data may be added before publication).

Articles which comply with all the requisites will be subject to a double process of evaluation:

At first, the members of the Editorial Board of the journal will make a selection of the works received, assessing whether each article meets the following requirements: 1. The work reaches the level required for academic articles; 2. The wording and the idiomatic uses are correct; 3. The bibliography is cited consistently and has sufficient bibliographic support; 4. The work complies with the conventions of academic articles and is not an essay or literary article; 5. The article is strictly adjusted to the themes of the journal (an author or work of the current Spanish literatura, last 50 years) and 6. The article can be evaluated anonymously. In this first phase, the articles can be evaluated as follows: "The article passes the first selection" / "The article passes the first selection if modifications are made" / "The article does not pass the first selection".

In a second moment, articles that have passed the first selection will be submitted to two experts in the field, not belonging to the journal's publishing institution, for a blind examination. The external reviewers will complete an evaluation form in which they will qualify (according to the scale Excellent / Good / Fair / Low) the following aspects of the article: 1. Originality and interest of the subject; 2. Scientific and methodological rigor; 3. Newness and relevance of the results of the investigation; 4. Meaningful and updated bibliography and 5. Style and formal presentation. The external reviewers will make one or more of the following recommendations on the article: "Publish" / "Publish with amendments" / "Do not publish". Likewise, external reviewers may make the indications, suggestions or corrections they deem appropriate.

Should the evaluations be contradictory, the Editorial Board would request a third evaluation and then decide whether to publish the article. The decision of the Editorial Board is final and the authors will be informed of the decision within a maximum of ninety days following the reception of the paper (the evaluators' leave time will not to be included in this ninety-day period). As the journal is committed to carrying out the evaluation process in a brief period of time and as a consideration to the referees, authors are kindly asked not to submit their article to another journal until they have received the results of the evaluation.

Articles with two positive reports will be sent to the authors to make the corrections suggested by the evaluators. The authors have a maximum period of one month to return articles which will be published when they are corrected.

AVAILABLE TEXT ON THE INTERNET AND / OR WITH DOI (DIGITAL OBJECT IDENTIFIER) OR HANDLE:

In general, if any publication (book, edition, book chapter, article ...) is available on a web page (URL), and has no uniform resource identifiers (URI) such as DOI (Digital Object Identifier) or Handle (persistent identifier used by the repositories), the URL will be included at the end of the reference, Indicating the date of consultation. Example:

If the publication has an uniform resource identifiers, such as DOI or Handle, it will be included at the end of the reference, without including the URL or date of query. Examples:

It is necessary to indicate the DOI in all texts that have it. To check which of the cited works have DOI you can use the Simple Text Query tool (http://www.crossref.org/SimpleTextQuery/), following these steps:

1) Register on the Simple Text Query portal (http://www.crossref.org/SimpleTextQuery/): you must enter an email address and click on “Submit”. Shortly afterwards an email will be received at the address provided with a link, in which you have to click to register.

2) Once you have registered, visit the Simple Text Query main page (http://www.crossref.org/SimpleTextQuery/), enter your email address and paste all the bibliographic listing of your work into the box. The texts must have a recognized format, must be ordered alphabetically and separated from each other by a blank line. Then click on “Submit”, and, in one or two minutes, the system will indicate, highlighting them in red, which texts have DOI.
