Gestating an angel: failure and maturation in Contra la juventud by Pablo d’Ors

Contra la juventud is a particular case within the bildungsroman genre. In this work, Pablo d'Ors focuses on the failure of an immature subject to adjust to the world around him. However, as I will show in this essay, an archetypal analysis of the secondary characters using the Jungian theory of individuation will help us interpret the magnitude of this formative failure. In turn, I will pay special attention to the figure of the angel and the salvific role it plays in the maturation process of the protagonist. In this regard, Eugenio d’Ors’ reflections on the qualities of the angelic will be essential.
