Manuel Vilas’ Ordesa (2018) is an autofictional novel which approaches the personal theme of mourning for parents’ death with an extremely fragmentary and hybrid structure. To this purpose, the author resorts to intermediality by reproducing documentarily throughout narration some photos from his family album. This article explains the importance of photographs in story configuration and analyzes their function inside the text according to the relationship between word and image.
