Strained Places: Researching Deathscapes of Francoist Regime
Keywords:
Disappearance; Space; Memory; Landscape; Francoist Regime.Abstract
Repression during and after the Spanish Civil War was selective and symbolic in terms of the means and places where the executions were carried out, and the subsequent disposal of the bodies. The difficulties in locating the precise burial sites has resulted in a landscape of places that go beyond their precise geographic locations, and constitute micro-landscapes of terror that are not encompassed by conventional coordinates, but are milestones that weave a history of places of tension.
