Abstract

Given the ongoing digitalization and the integration of artificial intelligence in the university context, this study examined the predictive role of digital competencies and AI use on academic engagement among university students in Lima. Using a non-experimental explanatory design, a survey was administered to 372 undergraduates. The analysis showed that digital competencies and AI use significantly predicted academic engagement (R² = .127; p < .001), with a positive effect of digital competencies and a negative effect of AI use. It is concluded that both variables are significant predictors of academic engagement, highlighting the need to foster digital skills and promote the responsible use of AI.
