In the present study, two unpublished designs by the Jesuit architect Pedro Mato are brought to light. They were intended for the church of the ‘hospital de la Misericordia’ in Ávila. Following the records, Mato drew them probably by 1652-54. As Mato’s designs could not be executed due to funding problems, it was decided to carry out a simpler project, based, however, on Mato’s one. This new project is signed by the architect Miguel del Carpio. His design is also revealed.
