Acute ataxia in pediatrics, although its incidence is not so high, is a very important neurological emergency, because it can produce effects in the psychomotor development of the child, and even be a threat to life.
Taking into account a real clinical case, we will review the possible etiologies of acute childhood ataxia, being post-infectious and toxic exposure the most common ones. We will also remember the diagnostic protocol that we are obliged to follow in these cases, focusing on the anamnesis and the neurological exploration due to their importance.
