Abstract

The ionogram consists of the analysis of the different concentrations of the most important electrolytes in the body. from this determination, the state of the intra and extracellular compartments is assessed to determine whether the patient under study has correct homeostasis. electrolytic alterations have a certain morbidity and mortality; they can induce critical situations for the patient. regarding their etiology, their multifactorial origin is notable; different physiological alterations in the different organs can cause modifications in the hydroelectrolytic balance, including the iatrogenic origin due to the use of drugs or errors in the pre-analytical phase of the sample. a correct assessment and interpretation of the laboratory tests by the medical staff is essential to avoid or correct the emergency situation in the patient.
