The present research article undertakes a revision of the figure of Álvaro Núñez de Isorna, Bishop of Mondoñedo, León, Cuenca and Santiago de Compostela. It focuses mainly on the political services which the prelate rendered to the monarchy throughout his life, especially during the reign of John ii of Castile. All the evidence scattered in secondary literature is analyzed, as well as that found in a number of archives both in and outside Spain, in order to provide a perspective of him as comprehensive as possible. This provides the view of a churchman that, for most of his life, was devoted to the royal service in different facets, among which ceremonies and diplomacy stand out.
