Financing

The magazine does not charge authors for sending their articles or reviews or for publishing them, and is financed and managed through the resources of Ediciones Universidad de Valladolid.

Peer review process (double blind):

1. The manuscripts must be uploaded to the journal’s digital platform. Authors will be informed automatically of receipt. Authors can also see the state of the review process on the platform.

2. The journal editor will appoint a member of the Editorial Board to verify that the manuscript complies with the requirements of the journal and fits the editorial line and thematic field. In the case of doubts, the Editorial Board or the Editorial Advisory Board may be consulted. When a manuscript does not comply with the requirements, the author(s) will be notified of the rejection and the reasons why.

If the formal defects in the manuscript are important, it will be returned to the author(s) for correction. If the said defects are few and not important, the author(s) will be asked to correct them following the peer review in the final version.

3. All manuscripts received for the Monographic Dossier or the Miscellany will be reviewed by two external referees, specialists in the subject matter. The referees must not belong to the Editorial Board or the Editorial Advisory Board. The peer review is anonymous on both sides (double blind). If there should be a discrepancy between the reports of the referees, the journal will ask a third referee to provide a further review.

4. The referees will be selected by the pertinent member of the Editorial Board, following advice of the Editorial Board or the Editorial Advisory Board, if necessary. The author(s) may suggest, when submitting the manuscript, the names of possible referees, while this implies no obligation on the part of the Editorial Board. The author(s) may not suggest persons who have intervened in the preparation of the manuscript, have read it beforehand, who belong to the same research project or group, or are related to the author(s) by kinship or close friendship. The author(s) may also reject certain possible referees if sufficient reasons are given.

5. The journal will request referees to send their reports within five weeks. The reviews must be completed on the journal’s digital platform. The review form, in addition to qualifying the originality, writing style, methodology, bibliography and relevance of the contribution, consists of the following questions:

  • Do you wish to convey any comments or suggestions to the author regarding the article’s writing style?
  • Do you wish to convey any comments or suggestions to the author regarding the methodology used in the article?
  • Do you wish to convey any comments or suggestions to the author regarding the bibliography used (such as including specific works)?
  • Any other comments or suggestions that you wish to convey to the author.
  •  Comments for the editors (i.e. article's relevance, originality, etc.).
  •  Is the article properly structured (i.e. introduction, body, and conclusion)

6. Having received and examined the referees’ reports, the Editorial Board will inform the author(s) of the decision to accept the manuscript or not, the reasons for the said decision, and the possible proposed corrections. The final decision on the acceptance of an article rests with the Editorial Board.

7. The final version of the manuscript, with the necessary modifications and adapted to the requirements of the journal, must be sent to the journal within 30 days of receipt of the notification (point 6). The author(s) can email the Editorial Board explaining the modifications and opportune allegations if necessary.

8. Holiday periods of the University of Valladolid will not count as part of the said time limits.

9. No article will be definitively accepted until all the corrections have been made. The Editorial Board will inform the author(s) by e-mail of the final decision concerning acceptance or rejection of the manuscript.

10. The journal will publish the final version of the article sent by the author(s). The proofreading must be limited to necessary changes due to erratas. We would therefore ask the author(s) to check the original carefully before sending it.

11. If, following publication, the author(s) detect any important errors, the Editorial Board should be informed, clearly indicating the location in the text and the pertinent correction.

12. The journal will periodically publish on the website the list of collaborating referees.

In accordance with the principle of gender equality, the journal uses inclusive language and encourages its use by authors. It recommends replacing the use of the generic masculine with non-discriminatory terms (such as collective nouns or gender-neutral adjectives), avoid expressions that perpetuate gender stereotypes and implement strategies aimed at favoring the most inclusive form of language. Authors are advised to follow the guidelines for the use of gender-inclusive language established by the United Nations.

When writing research works, authors must avoid gender biases whereby the masculine is used as a universal reference. They are advised to consult the European Union toolkit Gender in research and, where appropriate, provide information about the sex variable in research concerning persons, presenting the results disaggregated by sex.

In cases where it is relevant, the article reviewers should assess whether the studies include a sex and/or gender disaggregated analysis and whether they address its relevance in the research design, results, discussion, and limitations.
