In order to facilitate a comparison with the Iberian reality, this article deals with a general issue: the forms of administration of lordships in Italy. This is a huge subject that has been mostly ignored by Italian historiography and hence an overall perspecive is lacking. A preliminar overview is here provided together with a possible method of analysis, in the belief that synthetic approaches and methodological frameworks are the most useful contributions to comparative studies.
