During the two decades before the Spanish Civil War, a broad sector of Spanish teachers, the so-called reformist teachers, promoted through school an extraordinary renewal, not only educational, but also social. This paper approaches the figure of one of those reformist teachers, David Bayón Carretero, a man very concerned about rural school and teacher training. His work can be included in the efforts of this group to improve education and modernize school. He was subjected to a meticulous and inquisitorial purging, just as the rest of the sector.
