Approach and scope

IH is a scientific digital journal which annually publishes original research articles that are not under consideration by the editors of any other scientific journal. We invite articles on Modern and Contemporary History, particularly those engaging in innovative methodological approaches or fostering new lines of work. Unpublished reviews of books recently published in any language as well as contributions to the section “On Archives” are also welcome.

The articles may be written either in Spanish or in other languages –preferably English-. English texts should be written or checked by a native speaker in order to assert the highest linguistic quality.

Frequency of publication

Investigaciones Históricas, época moderna y contemporánea is published annually.

Submissions are welcome throughout the year. The current volume will be closed at the end of the year or, in any case, when enough contributions have been accepted.

Articles and reviews are to be sent as Microsoft Word documents. Texts will have a maximum of  65,000 characters, including spaces, notes, charts, tables and appendices. Any illustrations, images or any kind of graphic content should be inserted in their proper place within the text. Bibliography will appear at the end of the article.

The author is liable for the originality and content of the text and must have the permission required to reproduce all images included in his/her article.

When submitting an article in "Step 3. Enter Metadata" do not forget to include your name, surname and email address, as well as the title of the article, the keywords and the abstracts both  in Spanish and English. To do this, please select the "Spanish" language in the box that appears at the top of the page and include the information in Spanish; then, select the “English” language in the same box and enter the information in English. Do not forget to fill in the “Affiliation” box, indicating the name and mailing address of your institution and your academic category, as well as your ORCID identification number, if available.

FORMAT AND STYLISTIC REQUIREMENTS

MISCELLANY AND DOSSIERS

The articles, which must be unpublished manuscripts, may be written either in Spanish or in any of the languages accepted by the journal, and should conform exactly to the format that can be downloaded by clicking on the following link (ENLACE FORMATO ARTICULO). The articles must have the same design and layout of the model (clicking on “Diseño de página” > “Configurar página” you can see the predetermined values for “Márgenes” (Margins), “Papel” (Paper) and “Diseño” (Design)). All the elements in the article (title, main body, headings, quotations, footnotes, bibliography, headlines and page numbers) must conform to the type and size that appears in the model. (It may be useful to copy the model format first and then apply it to the corresponding paragraph or element in the article).

The inner structure of the articles should follow the outline introduction-methodology-results-discussion. It is advisable to adjust the articles to the following scheme:

Introduction: section intended to indicate the aim of the study, the method of analysis and the sources used.

Development: central section of the article that should be used to analyze the object of study. Authors may use as many headings or paragraphs as they deem convenient.

Conclusions: in this section it is necessary to specify in a systematic and precise way the results of the research, highlighting the original contributions offered by the article and the new lines of research that it opens.

GRAPHIC MATERIAL:

Charts, graphs, tables and figures must be inserted in the text, numbered in consecutive order in Arabic numerals, with the title at the top and the source/s cited at the bottom. Upper case Times New Roman Font (size 12) will be used for the titles, and lower case Times New Roman Font (size 12) for the source/s.

QUOTATIONS:

Short quotations (maximum three lines) will be included in the body of the text in quotation marks ("…"). Guillemets (« ») should be used for embedded quotations.

Longer quotations (more than three lines) will be indented and single-spaced, without quotation marks and using a 11-point font.

Notes will appear at the bottom of the page (single-spaced).

Reference marks for footnotes will be placed before the punctuation marks.
