Abstract

The different governments that led Somalia since its independence in 1960 had a common foreign policy based on the construction of a Greater Somalia. This irredentist project sought to bring together all the Somali populations of the Horn of Africa. The application of irredentist policies had a clear impact on public opinion in the country, which in turn affected the electoral results until 1969. Through the analysis of the electoral results, the effects of foreign policy on popular legitimacy and vice versa will be studied.
