Revista Española de Estudios Agrosociales is open to any specialist in contemporary processes of European integration and unification. The papers are accepted on the basis of the interest and scientific quality.

The Journal is open to any specialist in the fields of agricultural economics, agri-food law, agro-industrial, agro-environmental, agricultural policy, history, geography, rural development, environment or sustainability, studies and research that analyze the agri-food system and food problems, rural development processes and policies, as well as the problem of natural and forestry resources.  The geographical scope of reference of the journal is, fundamentally, Spain, and Europe, with particular attention also to Latin America. The criteria for publication are the originality, interest and scientific quality of the proposed work.

Click on "Submit a paper" to start submitting your paper (either a paper or a review) and follow the instructions. The system will guide you to complete the submission.

In step 3 do not forget to indicate your first and last name and e-mail address, and include the title of the paper, the keywords and the abstracts in Spanish and English. To do this, select the "Spanish" language in the box that will appear at the top of the page and include the data in Spanish; then select the English language in the same box and enter the data in English. You must also fill in the "Affiliation" box, indicating the name and mailing address of your institution and your academic category, as well as your ORCID identification number.

In the event that the articles are signed by more than one person, their authors must inform about the criteria chosen regarding the order of signature and about the specific contribution made by each participant. That information should be in a footnote at the beginning of the article. To guarantee anonymity in the evaluation, it must be included after the article has passed the evaluation.

The editorial board shall only accept papers with reasonably original content, to be subsequently anonymously reviewed by two reviewers of proven scientific expertise, their identity being anonymous.

Once the work has been accepted by the Editorial Committee, it will be submitted, anonymously, to the review of at least two external reviewers, chosen by the Committee in view of its accredited scientific solvency -double-blind evaluation process-. In the light of its reports, the Committee shall decide on their acceptance or rejection.

Periodicity and open publication over time

The journal is published semiannually, with two volumes per year. Articles are published throughout each semester when they are evaluated and approved. This allows readers to have access to updated information in real time, without waiting or delays, avoiding obsolescence of the news and topics covered in each paper. The six-monthly volume is completed with the publication of the reviews, ensuring that the issue is complete at the end of the semester.

FORMAT AND EDITORIAL STANDARDS

Papers -necessarily unpublished- should be submitted in MS Word. Use the template for articles or the template for reviews, maintaining the format in all aspects (logos, title, abstracts and data, font sizes and types, headings, paragraphs, indented citations, footnotes, final bibliography, headers, footers and page numbers).

If an article is not published in English, the legend of figures and tables must also be provided in English.

Research papers or “studies” will be approximately 7,500 words in length (rough 25 pages on A4, double-spaced, Times New Roman 12 point). Strictly necessary footnotes will be used, “Notes” papers will be approximately 3,000 words in length (rough 10 pages on A4, double-spaced, Times New Roman 12 point).

Author/authors: Manuscripts may be submitted in Spanish or English. A separate file should be included, a 150-word abstract in both languages containing the title, details of the aims, methods used, conclusions, keywords and first two-digit JEL classification.

The following personal details should be provided in a separate file containing the article title reference: full name, profession, office and workplace of the author or authors, e-mail address, postal address and telephone.

Formal declaration of authorship: Author or authors must make a formal declaration stating that the works are unpublished and have neither been submitted nor are under evaluation for any other publications.

Abstract and keywords

A separate file should be included with a 150-word abstract in Spanish containing the title, details of the aims, methods used, conclusions, keywords and first two-digit JEL classification (http://www.aeaweb.org/jel/guide/jel.php).

In the same file, an extended abstract in English, from 300 to 600 words, will also be provided, which will include in English: the title; details of the main objective, the method used, the most relevant results and some of the conclusions obtained; the keywords, and codes of the JEL classification with two digits (http://www.aeaweb.org/jel/guide/jel.php).

Tables and graphs

All tables and graphs (charts, diagrams, and other illustrations) should be numbered, indicating their title and source. In each case, the approximate position at which they should be inserted in the text should be given. The size of the figures must be included within the margins of the text, in any case, have an approximate size between A5 (148 × 210 mm) and A4 (210 × 297 mm).

BIBLIOGRAPHICAL REFERENCES AND CITATIONS

ARTICLES

The articles, which must be original and unpublished, can be written in Spanish or English, and will have a maximum length of thirty pages (including bibliography and all its data) after following the format of the template that can be downloaded at the following link: article format.  Authors are kindly requested to copy the parts of their article and paste them on top of the corresponding parts of the template, maintaining the format of the template in all aspects (logos, title, abstracts and data, font sizes and fonts, headings, paragraphs, indented citations, footnotes, endnotes, final bibliography, headers, footers and page numbers). In this way, the article will acquire a format that will facilitate its layout.

In the case of articles from doctoral theses or similar academic works published in repositories, it should be indicated when sending the article, in the "Comments for the editor" section, that it derives from a doctoral thesis or an academic work available on the Internet, including the link that gives access to the source text. After passing the anonymous evaluation process, this information will be included in a footnote at the beginning of the article. The degree of reworking of the article with respect to the original text will be evaluated.

It is advisable to adjust the structure of the articles to the following scheme:

- Introduction: section destined to indicate the object of study, describe the problem to be solved, the method of analysis and the sources used.

-Development: central section of the article to be used to analyze the object of study. Authors may use as many headings or sections as they deem appropriate.

-Conclusions: in this section the results of the research must be specified systematically and precisely, highlighting the original contributions offered by the article and the new lines of research it opens up.

TEXTUAL QUOTATIONS

Short quotations (up to three lines long) should be incorporated in quotation marks (with quotation marks: "...") in the body of the text. In the event that a quotation contains another quotation, the quotation marks of the internal quotation will be angle quotes (" ").

Long quotations (more than three lines long) should be indented, single-spaced, without quotation marks and with a font size of 11 points.

FOOTNOTES

All footnote calls will be placed after punctuation marks. Example:

A quote from Pliny appears below in the text: "And on this subject Pliny says that there is no book, however bad it may be, that does not have some good thing in it";1 but the direct source is not Pliny himself,2 but a splendid prose writer: Gabriel Alonso de Herrera. In 1513, in Alcalá de Henares, his Obra de agricultura, a pioneering creation and marvel of lexical accuracy, was printed for the first time.3

The font size in footnotes should be 10 point.

BIBLIOGRAPHICAL CITATIONS

Bibliographic citations, both in the body of the text and in the footnotes, should follow the International Harvard standard, indicating in parentheses the author's last name followed by a comma, the year of publication followed by a comma and the abbreviation "p." followed by the page number (in the case of a single page) or "pp." followed by the page numbers separated by a hyphen (in the case of multiple pages). Examples:

"The latest research (Martinez, 2023, p. 15) indicates that...".

"The latest research (Martinez, 2023, pp. 15-30) indicates that...".

When several works of an author published in the same year are cited, they should be distinguished by including lowercase letters in alphabetical order after the date: (Bloom, 1994a; Bloom, 1994b...).

If the author's name is part of the sentence, only the date (and, if applicable, the page or pages) should be included in the parenthesis. Example: "Segarra (1996, p. 25) holds a similar opinion on the subject".

If a paper has between one and three authors, all are included. If there are two, they are separated by an "and"; if there are three, the first two are separated by a comma and the second and third by an "and". Example: "The analyses carried out in this regard (Barbastro, Pascual and Segura, 2021) indicate that...".

When a paper has more than three authors, the surname of the first author followed by "et al." must be cited. Example: "The latest studies (Fernández et al., 2018) show that..."

Other types of references, such as cit., op. cit., id., ibidem... should not be used.

BIBLIOGRAPHY

In order for the article to be accepted and evaluated, the way of citing the bibliography must necessarily conform to the rules below.

The reference bibliography should be included at the end of the article after the heading Bibliography, in alphabetical order and with French indentation. The bibliography should list the titles cited in the paper in accordance with the International Harvard standard, giving the authors' full first names (and not only their initials), and following the following criteria:

WORKS THAT HAVE DOI (DIGITAL OBJECT IDENTIFIER):

It is necessary to indicate the DOI in all works that have it and that are available in free open access (DOI should not be included if it links to a work for which you have to pay to download it). To check which of the works cited in the final bibliography have a DOI you can use the Simple Text Query tool (http://www.crossref.org/SimpleTextQuery/), following the steps below:

1) Register on the Simple Text Query portal (http://www.crossref.org/SimpleTextQuery/): enter an e-mail address and click on "Submit". Shortly after, you will receive an e-mail message at the address provided with a link, which you must click on in order to register.

2) Once you have registered, visit the Simple Text Query home page (http://www.crossref.org/SimpleTextQuery/), enter the e-mail address you used to register in the corresponding box and paste the entire bibliographic list of your work into the box provided for this purpose. It is recommended that the works are in a widely recognised format, in alphabetical order and separated from each other by a blank line. Then click on "Submit", and, in one or two minutes, the system will indicate, highlighting them, which works have a DOI.

                                                                                               * * *

We recommend that, when submitting the article online, authors include in the "Citations" box a copy of the list of bibliographic works cited at the end of their article. To do this, they can copy the list of references from the original document of the article and paste it into a text document (Word, etc.), treating the text in the following recommended manner:

- Each reference should be separated from the previous one with a blank line.

— Each reference must be on a single line, avoiding line jumps. DO NOT use the labels <br>, <br/>, <br />, <p>.

— Don't apply any style that doesn't keep it when you peg the text in the reference field. DO NOT use HTML labels (such as black <b>, cursiva <i> or <em>, indexes , etc.).

— Do not include reference classification titles, such as "Primary sources consulted", "Secondary sources", "Archives consulted", etc. Please only review the list of references.

— The names and titles of the authors should not be omitted even if they are mentioned in different citations: they must be given in each of the citations.

Finally, the text is attached to the “Referencias” box.

REVIEWS

The reviews can be written in Spanish or English, and must have a maximum extension of four pages to adapt to the format of the plant that can be downloaded in the following link: format of the reports. We ask the authors who copy the parts of their essay and the next top of the corresponding parts of the plan, maintaining the format of the plan in all its aspects (logotypes, title, text and letter types, paragraphs, engravings, footnotes page and page numbers). In this form, the reseña will acquire a format that will facilitate its make-up.

EVALUATION

The works that are not adjusted to the "Format and Editorial Standards" and to the form of citing the bibliography that are indicated on this same web page will not be admitted or evaluated.

The works will be analyzed with a plagiarism prevention herramienta. The management of the magazine may rechase the articles which are considered to present plagiarism or a high number of coincidences with other texts.

In order to maintain anonymity in the evaluation, it is important to ask the authors who avoid citing them in the first person and who do not include data in the article that allows them to be identified (if the article passes the evaluation, they may add personal data before publication).

Articles that adapt to the format and editorial norms will undergo a double evaluation process:

In the first moment, the members of the Director Team and the Editorial Council of the magazine will make a selection of the relevant works, evaluating each article in accordance with the following requirements: 1. The work must be strictly adapted to the themes of the magazine; 2. The writing and idiomatic uses are correct; 3. The bibliography is cited coherently and conforms to the International Harvard standard, and the article has sufficient bibliographic apoyo; 4. It can be evaluated anonymously (there are no indices that allow deducing the identity of its author) and 5. The level required for academic articles is reached, and it is not a summary of the state of the questions that treated, until it constitutes a contribution of interest and true significance. In this first phase, articles may be evaluated as follows: "Passes the first selection" / "Passes the first selection if modifications are made" / "Does not pass the first selection". In the second case ("Passes the first selection if modifications are made"), the authors will have a maximum period of one month to make the suggested modifications.

In a second stage, the articles that have passed the first selection will be evaluated anonymously by two specialists in the corresponding area of knowledge, external to the journal's publishing institution. The external reviewers will fill in an evaluation form in which they will rate (according to the scale: N=not at all / P=poor / S=sufficient / B=sufficient / B=somewhat / M=very much) the following aspects of the article: 1. Originality and scientific interest; 2. Likewise, the persons carrying out the evaluation will have a space on the form in which to make any indications, suggestions or corrections they consider appropriate.

In the case of contradictory reports, the Editorial Board will request a third report. Papers with two positive reports will be sent to their authors so that they can make any corrections suggested in them. Authors will have a maximum period of one month to return the corrected articles, together with a report indicating the changes made in the light of any suggestions made in the evaluation reports. After assessing this report and any changes made to the article, a final decision will be taken on its publication, which will be communicated to the author. The decision of the Editorial Board is final.

The journal will endeavour to speed up the evaluation process. Authors are requested not to send their article to another journal until the result of the evaluation is known.
