Several architectural fragments represented in Pedro Berruguete’s painting reveal his knowledge of patterns and compositions of Italian art that were in use during the Quattrocento in architecture and decorative reliefs, both real and painted. Therefore, it could be considered that, with these architectural representations, the painter promoted an early visualisation of the new ‘al romano’ language (i.e., in the Roman way language) in the art of Castile and León.
