Short CPR training in secondary schools: analysis of learning and self-confidence improvement.

Cardiac arrest is a major cause of death where early bystander action is vital. This study evaluated the effectiveness of a one-hour basic CPR class delivered to 125 secondary school students. The session included theoretical and practical components based on European Resuscitation Council guidelines. Knowledge and confidence were assessed through pre- and post-training questionnaires. Results showed a significant increase in average scores and in students’ confidence to act during emergencies. The impact of the class was also analysed based on prior training and subjective perception of competence, where we could see that those with initial overconfidence did not necessary achieve better results. Teachers rated the methodology and participation positively. Short interventions like this are effective in school settings, though long-term retention should be further studied.
