ES REVIEW. SPANISH JOURNAL OF ENGLISH STUDIES (E-ISSN 2531-1654 | P-ISSN 2531-1646), published by the Department of English at the University of Valladolid both in print and online, is a double-blind, peer-reviewed international journal that publishes original contributions in the field of English Studies. 1. Focus and overview

  • Aims and scope

ES Review is aimed at publishing research on a variety of topics related to English Studies, including English language and linguistics, literature written in English, history and culture of the English-speaking countries, translation studies, and studies on the linguistic, literary, and cultural connections between Spain or Hispanic-America and the English-speaking world, within a variety of methodological approaches. Please note that ELT and Didactics fall outside of our journal scope.

  • Frequency of publication

ES Review is published annually. The journal issues a call for papers in May, submissions are accepted until 30th November, and acceptance of originals is communicated in April the following year. The volume is issued during the autumn term.

  • Sections

ES Review accepts and publishes research articles and book reviews in open issues. Monographs can be also considered when the theme is of high interest. ES Review does not accept any other kind of submissions.

  • Languages

ES Review is pleased to receive contributions in English. Articles in Spanish can also be considered for publication if the topic is related to connections with the Hispanic world.

2. Peer review process

All articles are subjected to a strict two-step, double-blind, peer review process, which takes approximately four months.

Internal review: Once an article or book review is sent, it is reviewed by the General Editors to ensure that it meets the basic prerequisites specified in the call for papers and our minimum quality requirements (see Author Guidelines).

External review: If an article meets our quality, content, and stylistic standards, it is then sent out for a blind peer review by two experts in the field concerned

Notification of the decision: The authors are notified of the decision (Accepted, Accepted pending revision, or Rejected) and provided with a copy of the external referees’ comments.

Assessment criteria: Referees are asked to rate the submission initially according to these criteria using a scale from 1 (weak) to 5 (strong).

1. Degree of originality and interest concerning subject matter, method, conclusions.
2. Relevance concerning current research in the field.
3. Knowledge of previous scholarship with reference to the topic under discussion.
4. Scientific rigour and depth of analysis.
5. Accuracy in the use of concepts, methods and terms.
6. Relevance of the theoretical implications of the study for future research.
7. Use of updated bibliography.
8. Organization of contents and correct use of language.
9. Clarity, elegance and conciseness of style.
10. Suitability of the paper in relation to the range of topics of interest for this journal.

Referees protocol: We provide our referees with certificates of collaboration and their names will appear on a table of acknowledgments in the corresponding issue, unless otherwise indicated. They are required to declare that they have no personal, academic, research, or financial conflicts regarding the paper, and that they will maintain the confidentiality of both the paper and the assessment. Evaluations are due within a month from the reception of the paper by the referees.

3. Open-access statement

ES Review. Spanish Journal of English Studies subscribes to an open-access model and publishes all contents free online.

The journal does not have either article submission charges or article processing charges (APCs).

Published articles and reviews are made available to researchers in PDF files at the journal's website and via DOAJ, UVADoc (the document repository system housed at the University of Valladolid), as well as MLA, LION, Scilit, and Dialnet.

4. DOI and preservation of digital files

A DOI (Digital Object Identifier) will be assigned to the articles published in the journal.

The articles will also be housed in the Repositorio Institucional de la Universidad de Valladolid and in other databases (DOAJ, MLA, LION, Scilit, Dialnet), and will be archived by the Servicio de las Tecnologías de la Información y las Comunicaciones de la Universidad de Valladolid (STIC).

5. Publication ethics and publication malpractice

ES Review adheres to the COPE Code of Conduct for Journal Publishers.

ES Review’s editors will keep all information about the contributions received confidential, whether or not the contribution is eventually published, and will not reveal information about the interactions with the authors and referees.

All the parties involved in the publication of ES Review issues (General Editors, Editorial Board, Managing Editor, Copy Editors, Authors and Referees) will be committed to ensuring ethics in publication and quality of articles, not tolerating practices of plagiarism and reporting copyright infringements.

The referees of ES Review will maintain confidentiality of the manuscripts submitted and will evaluate them following the objective criteria specified by the Journal and reporting to the General Editors any substantial similarity between the manuscript under consideration and any other published paper.

The authors of ES Review will guarantee that their contributions are original works that have not been previously published elsewhere. They will not submit their contributions to any other publication while they are under consideration by ES Review.

6. Plagiarism prevention tool

The journal uses Turnitin as a plagiarism detection tool to ensure that all published documents have not been plagiarised and to preserve the copyrights of authors and publishers from violation. The service is provided by the Servicio de las Tecnologias de la Información y las Comunicaciones de la Universidad de Valladolid (STIC).

7. Copyright notice

The articles and reviews published at ES Review. Spanish Journal of English Studies will have a Creative Commons Attribution-Non Commercial (CC-BY-NC) license.

The journal allows the authors to retain publishing rights. Authors may reprint their articles in other media without having to request authorization, provided they indicate that the article was originally published in ES Review: Spanish Journal of English Studies.

The authors of the articles will have to request the permissions for the use of material subject to copyright.

8. Privacy statement

The names and email addresses entered in this journal site will be used exclusively for the purposes stated by this journal (namely, those relating the processing of manuscripts submitted for publication, their evaluating process, or the distribution of information concerning the published works) and will not be made available for any other purpose or to any other party.

Under REGULATION (EU) 2016/679 OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL of 27 April 2016 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data, and repealing Directive 95/46/EC (General Data Protection Regulation), users can exercise their rights to request access to, and to rectification and erasure (right to be forgotten) of their personal information, restriction of and/or objection to data processing and portability, as well as not to transfer and/ or share your information with third parties individually.

9. Indexing

The journal is indexed in SCOPUS, ERIHPlus, Latindex-Catálogo v2.0, Dulcinea and MIAR 2019, and disseminated by Crossref, ROAD, ÍnDICEs-CSIC, JournalTOCs, REDIB and Ulrich’s Periodicals Directory, among other indexing and abstracting services. Find out about the journal's metrics on the side menu.
