Carlist traditionalism and religious freedom (1963-1967)

Abstract

This article provides a summary of the Traditionalist Communion policy against religious freedom during the late Francoism. Starting from the defense of Catholic unity as a fundamental element of the National essence of Spain, on reviews the Approach of Carlism against liberal tolerance; the draft Statute for non-Catholics and finally the Law of Religious Freedom of 1967. The sociocultural crisis of the sixties and the change of the Church in regard to the modern world sank traditionalism and reinforced internal division of the carlist party.
