Abstract

For the first time, we analyse the evolution of the Compañía Española de Electricidad y Gas Lebon during the Spanish Civil War, comparing it to similar companies in the sector. The company is relevant because at the time it was one of the main energetic companies of the country. We have studied the way in which they divided the company’s assets and we have identified the people responsible for managing it. In general, gas production in the national side went up due to various factors, among them the fact that coal was easily available. Gas and electricity consumption and clients grew, too.
