An Impossible Alliance. State and Episcopate in Spain (1814-1833)

This paper examines the configuration of the Spanish episcopate after the Peninsular War, its aim being to demonstrate that the so-called “Throne and Altar” conception of the relationship between politic and ecclesiastical power was mainly propagandistic and hardly operative by that time.
