Female presences in father Calatayud’s missions: women and corporal passions

Abstract

It is possible to approach the socio-cultural History of Castile and Portugal in the central ages of the XVIII century through the manuscript tales written by the Jesuit Father Calatayud. The religious experience: what he knows, the way it is interpreted and transmitted by him is, without any kind of doubt, a direct testimony of sensitivities and devotions, as well as the most common transgressions and sins in which his missions are found. We have analysed these digressions from women´s presences: the ones of those women who sinned due to their weakness and did not respect the sixth commandment or the sacrament of matrimony.
