This paper proposes an analysis of the political evolution of the progressive culture through one of its main spaces of sociability. In the decade of 1860, in numerous Spanish villages appeared the “tertulias progresistas”, name that was adopted by the spaces of partisan solidarity of a party that canalized the values of an advanced liberal culture. All of them followed the guidelines that the “Tertulia Progresista” of Madrid represented. The progressive democratization of this political option can be observed through the activities of these centers that ended representing a synthesis amongst liberalism and democracy during the “Sexenio Democrático” (1868-1874).
