Abstract

The Archivo General de Simancas holds, in the Gracia y Justicia section, several bundles of documents on different Spanish churches, the result of the work carried out by different commissioners appointed by José de Carvajal y Lancaster, Secretary of State, especially Carlos de Simón Pontero, prosecutor of the Cámara de Castilla. As «viajes literarios», together with the intention of writing an ecclesiastical history of Spain, the documents collected would serve as legal support for the royalist claims for royal patronage in the context of negotiations towards the Concordat of 1753. The documentation of Simancas, with its context of production and archival conservation.
