Interest in content, nature and uses of memoirs, diaries and autobiographies, which it has been called the “writings of the self” has inspired numerous essays raising fundamental reflections with the aim of correctly understanding this genre: an essential question if we intend to approach its analysis from historical research. This article aims to analyze the value of the writings of the self as a historical source, focusing on Spain and, specifically, on one of the periods on which more memories have been published and, at the same time, has received more attention in the last years: the transition to democracy.
